N.J.’s Best Ice Cream Shop Is A Morris Co. Favorite, Report Says

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Cliff's Homemade Ice Cream, which is just minutes off Route 80, has received a national honor, taking the top spot for the best ice cream in New Jersey.

Reader's Digest, a national magazine and website, recently published an article naming the best ice cream in each state. Cliff's Homemade Ice Cream in Ledgewood, a Morris County institution, won the state title.

Cliff's has been making ice cream since 1975, and aside from having the best ice cream on this "side of Minty Mountain Hop," the shop is fun, family-friendly, and open all year.

"It's the home of the Skyscraper (don't ask) and offers more than 60 ice cream flavors (as well as 11 soft serves). If you're coming from New York, try the Graham Central Station, while visitors from elsewhere in New Jersey might prefer the Holy Cannoli," the website wrote.

Cliffs is located on Route 46, west of the former Ledgewood Circle and east of the Roxbury Police Department.

Cliff's Homemade Ice Cream exploded onto the ice cream scene in March 1975. Cliff Freund, an ice cream salesman, retail business owner, and Roxbury High School teacher, founded the shop.

Cliff's has become a local institution over the years, quietly winning award after award in national competitions.

"Cliff's picnic area brings together families and friends for amazing homemade ice cream and lasting memories. That is what Cliff's is all about. If you ask anyone in Roxbury, maybe even Northern New Jersey, they can recall at least one special time at Cliff's," the ice cream shop said.
