WHIPPANY, NJ — Summer might not be over yet, but it's time to star thinking about Christmas. Tickets for the popular Polar Express ride in Whippany go on sale next week for the 2019 holiday season.

Ticket sales start Sept. 3 at 9 a.m. (groups of 20 or more can buy tickets by phone starting on Aug. 29). Rides began on Nov. 16, and run through Dec. 30.

Children will be treated to hot cocoa and cookies served by dancing chefs, and will have a read-along to the classic Chris Van Allsburg book. Just like in the book and the film, children will be given a silver sleigh bell by Santa and his helpers.

The entire experience is about two hours, and booking as soon as you know when you'd like to attend is recommended. Wheelchair seating is available but limited. Children under two can ride for free if they sit on a parent's lap.

Tickets start at $46 for a "value" children's ticket in coach, and top out at $80 for an adult first class "peak" ticket (tickets are about $5 more expensive this year than last year). Pricing depends on when exactly you want to go, with weekends in December being the most expensive, and weekdays in November being the cheapest. You can visit their ticketing calendar here.
