Purse Snatcher Strikes In Morristown, Sought By Cops

Incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Wester Avenue Saturday night, police report.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – A man who allegedly ran up behind a woman and stole her purse and injured her Saturday night and is being sought by police.

Morristown Police Lt. Stuart Greer announced Sunday afternoon a Morristown woman, 40, called 9-1-1 at 11:20 p.m. Saturday to report her purse had just been snatched.

Officers arrived at the scene on Western Avenue and found the victim, who said she had been walking home when an unknown man ran up behind her and snatched her purse from the shoulder, Greer said.

The man ran away, at which time the woman realized she was bleeding from a small cut on her arm, Greer said.

The victim was taken to Morristown Medical Center where she was treated for a minor, non-life threatening injury and was later released.

The man was described as approximately 5’10” and wearing a black hooded jacket, last seen running on Western Avenue toward Ann Street.
