Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued In Morris County

The warning remains in effect through Monday morning.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Forecasters issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Morris County on Monday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the severe thunderstorm watch is under effect until 10:30 a.m., Monday.

There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 a.m., with a hazard alert of 60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail in the area.

The chance of precipitation is currently at 80 percent, forecasters said.

Vehicles may sustain minor damage during the storm. Wind can cause damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines, according to the NWS.

“Several instances of flooding are possible, especially in urban and poor-drainage areas and near vulnerable small creeks and streams,” the National Weather Service said.

Wet weather with scattered storms is expected to linger in the area until at least mid-week, when the daily threat of thunderstorms lowers to around 50 percent from Thursday to Sunday.

Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m., then a chance of showers. Low around 65. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming southwest after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
