The hotel was evacuated for around an hour Monday morning when a fire broke out in the kitchen.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — A kitchen fire at the Hyatt Regency Morristown forced the evacuation of the hotel and closed the road for about an hour Monday morning, Morristown officials said.

The fire broke out during the 9 o'clock hour. Employees and guests from the hotel and the nearby office towers were evacuated as a precaution, and were allowed back in about an hour later.

The fire brought out the best in the community, Morristown officials said.

"As usual, when something bad happens, it tends to bring out the best in our community. The staff from the [hotel] went out of their way to ensure that everyone was comfortable, providing bottled water to those who had to evacuate and working hard to accommodate their needs while worrying about their hotel," officials wrote. The nearby Playa Bowls Morristown provided smoothies for all responding officers.

"Finally, the Department of Public Safety would like to recognize and thank all the agencies that responded for this incident. We have existing mutual aid agreements in place so that we can quickly get resources when needed but we’re always thankful for the extra assistance," officials said.
