5K Run & Walk Coming To Weequahic Park In Newark: See Event Details

NEWARK, NJ — Looking for a chance to get outside and break in those new running shoes?

The 2024 Weequahic Park 5K Run and Walk is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 24 at Weequahic Park, 92 Thomas Carmichael Drive in Newark. A 50-meter kid’s race is slated to start at 10:30 a.m.

According to organizers, the event will take place on the roadway and scenic paths through the park. It will be a USATF-sanctioned event, and will include $3,000 in prize money. Learn more or register online here.

ROAD CLOSURES

The Newark Department of Public Safety said multiple streets will be closed the day of the event from 10:45 a.m. to noon:

• Bergen Street, northbound and southbound traffic, between Hawthorne Avenue and Grumman Avenue
• Eastbound and westbound cross traffic will be permitted when the intersection is clear of runners and walkers
• Watson Avenue between Bergen Street and Elizabeth Avenue
• Meeker Avenue between Elizabeth Avenue and Frelinghuysen Avenue

In addition, the following streets will be closed intermittently during the 5K Run and Walk:

• Elizabeth Avenue between Grumman Avenue and Chancellor Avenue
• Elizabeth Avenue between Meeker Avenue and Watson Avenue
