A 'Devilish' Donation to the Newark Public Schools

Team makes contribution supporting visual arts instruction

Pictured here is Sussex Avenue School Principal Darleen Gearhart and visual arts teacher Nelson Alvarez receiving a $5,000 check from the New Jersey Devils mascot, representing the Devils Cares Foundation at the school Friday.  The donation is to the Newark Public Schools’ Visual and Entertainment Arts program, the purpose of which is to explore and pilot strategies that ensure all students receive a robust, developmentally appropriate and sequential arts education.  Other schools selected to participate in the initiative are: Level 1-BRICK Peshine Academy, Camden Street, Louise A. Spencer, Maple Avenue and South Street.  Level 2 schools are Arts High School, East Side High School, Ivy Hill School, Newark Bridges, and Rafael Hernandez.
