Storm Causes Ground Stop, Delays At Busy NJ Airport

Delays and cancellations are stacking up at a busy New Jersey airport on Friday.

NEWARK, NJ — A weather-related ground stop was issued at Newark Airport in New Jersey on Friday afternoon.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a ground stop was issued at 3:20 p.m. due to thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service reported that a wind advisory, hazardous weather outlook and “severe” thunderstorm warning were in effect for the Newark area.

FlightAware reported that Newark Airport has seen 253 delays and 19 cancellations so far on Friday.

On Friday morning, Newark Airport administrators advised that it was going to be a “very busy” day, suggesting that travelers budget extra time to arrive, park, check in and make their way through security lines.
