Kollie ordered victim to ATM machine for more cash

A city man was sentenced March 1 to 15 years in prison for an armed robbery during which he threatened to shoot off the kneecaps of his victim if he failed to produce more money, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

Jamil Kollie, 19, who was convicted in December, must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before being considered for parole.

On Jan. 19, 2011, Kollie pointed a gun at a man on the corner of Schley Street and Chancellor Avenue. When the victim said he only had $12, Kollie threatened to shoot his knees off, then forced him  to go to a nearby store to get more momey from an ATM.

Kollie took the man’s car keys and threatened to steal the vehicle if the victim did not come back. The victim called police from inside the store, while Kollie and an unidentified driver fled in the victim’s car.

“People in Newark should be able to carry on their daily business without the fear of being held at gunpoint and robbed,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor Brian Matthews, who tried the case.
