Armed Robbery Suspect Nabbed by Fugitive Unit

Group attacked lone victim last month

A 19-year-old city man suspected of taking part in a violent armed robbery last month was arrested by the Newark Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit, the department said in a statement.

Kendell McDowell was arrested April 26 at his S. 15th Street home and held on $100,000 cash bail.

Around 4:30 pm April 12, McDowell and other, unidentified suspects allegedly attacked a 23-year-old man at 16th Avenue and S. 13th Street. The victim, who was pistol-whipped, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

"I am pleased we were able to track this violent predator and make an arrest without incident,” said Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio. “Hopefully the bail set for the defendant will keep him off our streets for an extended period of time."
