Police Search for Newark Man, 19, Accused of Killing Mother's Boyfriend

Lawrence Williams allegedly stabbed man at family home Halloween night

Newark police and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are searching for Lawrence Williams, 19, of Newark, after obtaining a warrent for his arrest in connection with a fatal stabbing Monday night in the city.

Katherine Carter, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office, said Williams allegedly stabbed David T. Collier, 38, of Newark, around 10:30 p.m., following an argument between the two men at Williams' family home on Treacy Avenue.

Collier, who was Williams' mother's boyfriend, was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:45 p.m., according to Carter.

Williams apparently fled the scene and remains at large. Carter said the teenager is presumed to be armed and dangerous.

In addition to the murder charges, Williams was charged with two weapons offenses.

Carter said bail was set at $500,000 by New Jersey Superior Court Judge Peter Vazquez.
