Authorities Identify Man Killed Tuesday

Suspect's car later found in Hillside

Officials Wednesday identified the man shot and killed on a Newark street yesterday afternoon and are seeking the public’s help to find the shooter.

TeeJay Rice of Newark was on the 400 block of Chancellor Avenue around 3 pm when a car pulled up and a man jumped out, shooting Rice and another man before returning to the car and speeding off, said Katherine Carter, a spokesperson with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Rice, 30, was pronounced dead about a half-hour later after being rushed to a hospital. The other victim, a 24-year-old city resident, was hospitalized in stable condition Wednesday.

The vehicle used by the suspect was later found abandoned in Hillside, Carter also said.
