Booker's Communications Director Resigns
Cameron taking a job in the private sector

The communications director for the administration of Mayor Cory Booker has resigned to accept an offer with a private sector firm ranked amid the very top of the Fortune 500 list, she told Patch Monday.
Esmeralda Diaz Cameron, who had served in the city's communications office since 2008, said Monday she would be leaving Aug. 3 and is overseeing the transition to her replacement in the meantime.
“It has been an honor to work for Mayor Booker and to represent his administration as city spokesperson. The past four years have been a rewarding experience and I am proud to have been part of the historic achievements that are part of the city’s urban transformation under Mayor Booker’s leadership,” she said in a statement.
“I sincerely appreciate the opportunities that have been provided to me during my years of public service with the City of Newark. It’s been a privilege to work with the incredible team of professionals who make up the press information office and to serve the residents of the City of Newark.”
Cameron declined to name her new employer, describing it only as being among the “Fortune 30”.
Cameron also denied speculation that her departure has anything to do with uncertainty over Booker’s future plans. Booker’s current mayoral term expires in 2014.
“This was just a great opportunity that was offered to me,” she said.
Cameron assumed the job of top spokesperson at city hall several weeks ago . Torres left shortly after Booker’s appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” when he criticized Obama campaign ads attacking Mitt Romney’s Bain career.
