Broad Street to be Repaved Next Week

Work scheduled to be performed over several days

Newark’s main thoroughfare is scheduled for major repairs next week, likely leading to traffic delays, city officials said.

Broad Street between Edison Place and Franklin Street will be repaved beginning Monday, May 13. The work is scheduled to be completed Saturday, May 18.

On Monday, work begins at 7 pm and concludes 6 am Tuesday. From  Tuesday to Friday, work will take place between 7 am and 4 pm. On Saturday, the street will be resurfaced between 7 am and 4 pm.

“Broad Street is one of our historic corridors, and we are working to restore its past glory while making it convenient for the 21stt-century motorist and pedestrian. We have already completed major Streetscaping efforts that have enhanced Broad Street’s safety and appearance, with new medians, traffic lights, street furniture, and crosswalks,” Mayor Cory Booker said.
