Bystander Shoots, Kills Dog As It Attacked Woman In Newark, Cops Say

The concerned citizen remained on the scene of the shooting, authorities said.

NEWARK, NJ — A dog was shot and killed as it attacked a woman on the street during Thanksgiving, according to authorities.

Just after 9 a.m. Nov. 27, police were called to the 200 block of South 9th Street on a report of a dog bite.

According to police, a concerned bystander had pulled a handgun and shot the dog as it was biting the woman.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries, but the dog died, officials added.

Police said the shooter remained in the area following the shooting, and no charges have been filed.
