City Hall Evacuated by Smoky Fire
Blaze in sub-basement contained by firefighters; one person injured in evacuation.
Newark City Hall was briefly evacuated this morning when a fire broke out in the sub-basement of the building at around 8:25 a.m.
Newark firefighters were on the scene at 920 Broad St. and put out the smoky fire, according to city officials and employees were able to return to the building.
One municipal employee was injured when she fell down some stairs during the evacuation, city officials reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
