
A 35-year-old city resident was shot and killed early Sunday night, authorities announced.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio identified the victim as Damon Williams. Officers were called to the 600 block of Sanford Avenue around 6:30 pm and found Williams, who had been shot multiple times. He was rushed to University Hospital and pronounced dead about a half-hour later.
The matter is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is ongoing at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
