DEP to Hold Hearing on Newark Energy Center Thursday

Public invited to comment on air-quality permit application

The state Department of Environmental Protection will be hosting a hearing Thursday, July 26 regarding the air quality permit for the Newark Energy Center, a 655-megawatt natural gas power plant that would be built at Doremus Avenue and Delancy Street in the city’s Ironbound section. The hearing takes place at city hall, 920 Broad St., from 7 to 9 pm.

During the hearing, the public will be invited to comment on the DEP’s intent to grant Hess Corp., which is building the plant, an air quality permit.
