Essex County College Expanding Child Care Service

Change takes effect this week

The Child Development Center (CDC) at Essex County College (ECC) is expanding its services to infants ages three months to 12 months at the Newark campus effective Tuesday. The center will also provide evening care for children from 2 years to 13 years, weeknights until 9:30 pm, to benefit parents who attend classes in the evening.

“Our students were asking us to expand our services to include the infants,” said CDC Director Deloris Grimsley. “After talking with many of our younger students with babies, they would not be able to attend college without our service.”

Child care is available from 7:30 am to 6 pm with evening hours from 5:05 to 9:30 pm.

The center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) through June 2013. The accrediting agency recently accepted the CDC’s annual report, a requirement to ensure quality is being maintained between the full site review visits, the next of which will take place early next year.

Additional information, including enrolling pre-school youngsters into the CDC, is available at 973-877-3357.
