Essex County College Hosts 'Angel Tree'
Students, alumni, staff donate toys for needy Newark youth

Students and faculty at Essex County College recently took part in the school’s 11th annual Angel Tree program, collecting hundreds of toys for children up to the age of 17 and donating them to harmony House, Apostles’ House and Covenant House, all in Newark.
“It gives me a good feeling, especially at this time of the year, to show the community that our family at Essex County College cares about them,” said Lola Akiwowo, director of ECC’s Alumni Association, the annual sponsor of the event.
The names and ages of the children, in the form of angels, are placed on the tree which is set up on the main level of the College’s A. Zachary Yamba Building on the Newark campus. The names are selected by students, faculty and staff, and appropriate toys are purchased in time for Christmas distribution.
