Essex County Will Continue Series Of Food Giveaways With Irvington Park Event

An emergency food giveaway event will take place in Irvington on Nov. 13. Other events were held at three nearby county parks.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — An emergency food giveaway event will take place in Irvington on Thursday, Nov. 13 to help people impacted by the federal government shutdown.

According to a news release from Essex County, the distribution event will take place at 10 a.m. at Irvington Park (D. Bilal Beasley Community Center Parking Lot) on Lyons Avenue.

Food items will be available on a first-come first-served basis, while supplies last.

Here’s what you should know if you plan to go, county officials said:

“Residents should bring their EBT card. Those driving to Essex County Irvington Park should line up on Lyons Avenue before turning right into the parking lot. No left turns will be allowed. Those walking to the site should proceed to the front entrance of the community center. It is recommended that residents walking to the site bring a cart.”

The event is being held in partnership with the Community FoodBank of NJ and RWJBarnabas Health.

“Even though SNAP benefits have been restored, our residents are still facing food insecurity because of inflation and rising prices,” Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. said.

“The food distributions that we are doing – along with all the other agencies and nonprofits – are still very much needed,” DiVincenzo said.

The county recently held three other emergency food giveaways at Branch Brook Park, Monte Irvin Orange Park and Weequahic Park.
