Newark Fire Displaces 15

No one hurt in blaze Saturday

Firefighters battling a blaze at a three-family home Saturday also had to contend with sweltering heat outdoors.

The fire started in a back room on the second floor of 355 S. 11th St. shortly before 1 pm and quickly spread throughout the dwelling. It was brought under control in about 40 minutes, said Capt. John Brown of the Newark Fire Department.

A total of 15 people - 10 children and five adults, ranging in age from 7 months to 53 years old -- lived in the residence. There were no injuries, Brown said.
