Fishing Derby Comes to Weequahic

Annual kids event makes the round of all county parks

Essex County’s annual fishing derby came to Weequahic Park this past Saturday, and several young Newarkers hooked themselves prizes for their prowess with hook and line.

Messiah Payton was recognized as the first girl to catch a fish during the derby and also for landing the most fish in the girls age 6-10 category; Isaiah Cooper was tied for most fish in the boys 11-15 age category; McQuran Muhamed tied for most fish caught among boys aged 5 and under; while Jasir Terry was the first boy to catch a fish Saturday and caught the most among boys in the 6 to 10 category.
