Governor's Hispanic Fellowship Porgram Seeks Applicants

Course Introduces Students to Government Careers

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno has announced that the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development is recruiting college students for the 2012 Governor’s Hispanic Fellows Program.

The program brings selected Hispanic students to Trenton for eight weeks and introduces them to career opportunities in government and public service, nonprofits and the private sector.  The program helps students develop and strengthen professional skills essential to career success.

“I am proud to oversee the important work of the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development. Through this program, young people in the Hispanic Community are provided important experience and training,” said Guadagno.  “These skills will help them develop into future business, political, and community leaders.”

Each week, fellows participate in intensive training sessions to cultivate and develop leadership skills.  Past programs have covered topics such as community empowerment, enhancing self-confidence among the young, conflict resolution and public policy, diversity and the public policy process.

The application deadline is March 26.

To date, 642 college students statewide have participated in the Governor’s Hispanic Fellow Program.
