Health Fair In Newark Gets Boost From NJ Assemblywoman, Councilwoman

NEWARK, NJ — A community health fair in Newark recently got a boost from two local elected officials: New Jersey Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker and Newark City Council member-at-large Louise Scott-Rountree.

During the public event – which was held at the historic Kreuger-Scott Mansion – attendees were offered on-site health screenings, wellness resources and access to medical professionals at no cost (watch video footage below).

Community leaders, including health experts, were also present to speak with residents about preventive care and long-term wellness planning.

Tucker and Scott-Rountree co-hosted the event. Participating organizations and stakeholders included University Hospital, the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NJCBVI), the Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center, Makerhoods, the Greater Newark Conservancy, the City of Newark Department of Health and Community Wellness, and the Rutgers Health CARE Center for Addiction Medicine.

“It’s wonderful to be joined by people and organizations that want to help give our community members a chance to receive essential health services they otherwise may not get,” said Tucker, a Democrat who represents the state’s 28th district (Hillside, Irvington, Maplewood, Newark, South Orange).

“As the federal government’s actions reduce the number of people who can access Medicaid, it is vital that we bring these resources to our constituents and that we provide them with referrals to other agencies that can help them further,” Tucker added.
