
A city man was hospitalized in serious condition Monday after being struck by his own car during an early morning carjacking attempt, Newark police said.
The victim was in his driveway on Helen Place about 5:30 am when a car pulled up and a man exited, then entered the victim’s vehicle. When the man attempted to stop the carjacker, he pinned the victim to a fence, causing life-threatening injuries, police said.

The carjacker fled the scene in the car he arrived in, which police believe was stolen.
