Man Found Stabbed to Death in his Car
Another man indicted for murder today, ECPO announces

An Elizabeth man was found stabbed to death today in his car and another man has been indicted for murder, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has announced.
Kareem Montague, 34, of Elizabeth was fatally stabbed in his vehicle in the vicinity of Central Avenue and West Market Street in Newark shortly after midnight. The victim was pronounced dead at approximately 12:48 am at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates the attacker got into the victim’s car and stabbed him.
Also today, 18-year-old Christopher Howard of Newark has been indicted in the slaying of another city man, Frederick Smith, 24.
At approximately 2:30 am on Aug. 21, 2011, Smith was shot multiple times in the head and neck in the 200 block of Eastern Parkway in Newark, according to Assistant Prosecutor Portia Downing, who is handling the case.
Police responded to a call for shots fired in the West Ward neighborhood. When officers arrived, they found Smith, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Howard is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges in the indictment on June 26.
