Man Indicted for Allegedly Strangling Co-worker

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that an Essex County Grand Jury has indicted Roberto Ortiz, 32, of Newark for first degree murder and fourth degree hindering prosecution charges in the death of Sylvia Paucer, 37, also of Newark.
 
On November 9, 2011, Paucer, who was co-workers with Ortiz, was found unresponsive in her car on the 100 block of Stone Street, where she lived. Her teenage son and brother discovered her after searching for her when she didn’t return home from night classes. Paucer was taken to University Hospital where she was later pronounced dead at 10:45 pm. She had been starngled, authorities said.

Ortiz is scheduled to be arraigned on July 3.
