Man's Death Declared a Homicide

Victim Sustained Injuries at Home


Law enforcement officials today have ruled the death of a 41-year-old city man Monday a homicide.

Francisco Perez was involved in an “altercation” at his home Sunday evening, March 18, according to a statement from Newark police and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. 

Several hours later, he was taken to University Hospital complaining of head pain. He was pronounced dead the following day at 11:45 am. The medical examiner has preliminarily found that the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

The matter is being investigated by Newark police and the prosecutor’s office and no arrests have yet been made. The case is expected to go before a grand jury following the conclusion of the investigation, the prosecutor’s office said.
