Mixed-Use Apartment Building Gets OK In Irvington
Irvington officials have given a green light to build a new, 156-unit mixed-use project in a local redevelopment area.

IRVINGTON, NJ — Irvington officials have given a green light to build a new, 156-unit mixed-use project in a local redevelopment area.
The Irvington Planning Board approved plans for 734-748 Springfield Avenue last week. The building will also include more than 10,000 square feet of commercial tenant space.
According to North Plainfield-based Taylor Architecture & Design – which spearheaded the building’s design – the project is located in the Springfield Avenue District of the East Ward/East Springfield Avenue Redevelopment Plan, which includes elements that aim to “combat suburban sprawl” and “create successful neighborhoods.”

Here’s the vision for the property, developers said:
“The building is six stories with basement and grade level parking. The unit mix is 66 one-bedroom units, 85 two-bedroom units and five three-bedroom units. All of the dwelling units will be ADA-adaptable and designed with features for people with disabilities. The amenity-rich building includes covered parking, first-floor lounge, game room, package room, community kitchen, fitness center, co-working space, resident storage and an expansive second-level amenity deck … Located on Springfield Avenue between 21st and 22nd streets, the building has two distinct corner elements defined with inset balconies. Iron spot brick veneer and a two-color fiber cement panel façade undulate both vertically and horizontally for a clean, contemporary look using traditional materials. The tall, continuous storefront glazing will highlight new commercial space and the residential lobby, activating the streetscape along Springfield Avenue.”
