Nellie Grier Center Closed for Repairs

Leaguers Building to be Alternate While Renovations are Completed

Mayor Cory A. Booker, Department of Child and Family Well-Being Director L’Tanya Williamson, and Department of Engineering Director Mehdi Mohammadish have announced that the Nellie Grier Senior Center, located at 98-104 Maple Ave., will be closed effective April 30 until further notice. No date for re-opening has been set.

“We are performing essential maintenance to ensure that our senior citizen centers can continue to provide our residents with the highest quality of services,” Booker said. “We ask that our residents be patient while we perform this work.”

While maintenance is performed, residents are encouraged to enjoy the facilities at The Leaguers building located at 731 Clinton Ave.  The maintenance work will be accomplished utilizing engineering staff, and will come from Community Development Block Grant funds, being utilized for facility improvements.

There will be improvements to the mechanical system, including the air conditioning and heat. The windows will be replaced with energy-efficient windows, safety lighting will be installed around the perimeter of the facility, and access to the facilities will be improved through modifications to the ramp and pathways. All the exterior doors will be replaced to improve safety. In addition, the interior spaces will be improved.
