New Italian Restaurant Debuts in January

The Monk Room to be modeled after Asbury Park's famed Porta

Brick City will welcome a new eatery in January, an Italian restaurant with a distinctive twist.

The Monk Room, which will be operated by the owners of the famed Porta in Asbury Park, will offer classic Neapolitan cuisine. The restaurant, which will boast a menu similar to Porta’s and food by chefs Laura Brahn and Chris Calabrese, will have a tomato-red exterior and a 1,200-square-foot dining space intended to evoke a lived-in, cozy feel. It will be located at 20 Green St.

The menu will include four pizzas - margherita, marinara, carbonara and clamboni -- as well as fresh-made pasta, salads, sandwiches and desserts,  including a “Nutella pizza,” a confection consisting of Nutella spread, wood fired pizza dough and powdered sugar.
