2 Newark Buildings Are Open For Affordable Housing Applications (UPDATED)
New applications are being taken for affordable housing at two apartment buildings in Newark.

NEWARK, NJ — New applications are being taken for affordable housing at two buildings in Newark. Priority will be given to local residents at both buildings, officials said.
Four one-bedroom/one bath units are available at River Pointe, located at 486 Market Street. Gross rent is $1,523, although once determined, a utility deduction may be applied. Apartment sizes range from 570 to 707 square feet.

A random selection process will determine which applicants are chosen. The deadline to apply is Tuesday.

Another affordable housing opportunity is open at The Mercer Apartments, 10 Commerce Court.
There are 22 units available: 16 one-bedrooms and six two-bedrooms. A lottery drawing for applicants will be held on Nov. 15. Occupancy is anticipated for December 2025.
The city has announced similar affordable housing openings in the past year, including apartments on McWhorter Street, Freeman Street, Court Street and Sussex Avenue.
