A man believed to be responsible for a June 19 shooting was captured Friday by the Fugitive Apprehension Unit of the Newark Police Department, the NPD said in a statement.
Thursday night, at 10:30 pm, detectives from the unit arrested Jose Carrion, 36, at his home, 482 Summer Ave., where detectives also reportedly found an open gun case, a loaded .25-caliber handgun, 50 folds of heroin and 82 oxycodone pills.
The shooting occurred around 6 pm at 493 Summer Ave., not far from where Carrion was arrested Thursday. The victim, a 41-year-old city man, was shot once but survived, an NPD spokesman said Friday.
Carrion was charged with possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession with the intent to distribute and possession within 1,000 feet of a school.
“I commended the officers of the Newark Police Department that established concrete evidence which led to the apprehension of a suspect involved in a shooting. The efforts by these officers have resulted in the seizure of a handgun and illegal narcotics that ultimately improves the quality of life for all residents,” said Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio.
