Newark Heroes: Paying Tribute To 2 Day-In, Day-Out Grinders

NEWARK, NJ — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Sometimes, the most appreciated heroes are the ones who don't make news headlines. Several people in Newark nominated family members who deserve a nod for their day-in, day-out gumption.

ELIJAH MELVIN: 'SUPPORTS HIS FAMILY'

Reason for recognition: Take care of his daughter, supports his family, and maintains his self to work 12 hours a day.

DENNIS KWAO: 'SELFLESS DURING THE PANDEMIC'

Name: Dennis Kwao

State: NJ

Hometown: Newark

Hero's job: Health Care

Nominated by: Nareca Pecku (spouse)

Reason for recognition: I believe he was selfless during the pandemic. He had a car problem at the time and would walk two miles back and forth to catch a train. When the train schedule is late he has to take Uber back and forth, risking his health joining public transport.

One thing to know: Dennis put his work and customers health first. He is selfless!
