US Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) have announced nearly $3 million in federal funding to improve services at the Newark Workforce Center for Career Development (NWCCD) , a one-stop service center for job-seekers. The center works directly with local businesses and the New Jersey Department of Labor to provide information on employment opportunities, vocational and job training, and assistance with obtaining unemployment insurance. The Newark Workforce Investment Board (NWIB), which operates the NWCCD, received the funding through the U.S. Department of Labor's Workforce Innovation Fund.
Workforce Innovation Fund grants like this one are designed to promote innovative approaches to modernize and streamline workforce development systems. These funds will allow the NWCCD to acquire and analyze the detailed data needed to allocate workforce development resources in a way that will have the greatest impact on reducing unemployment.
