Newark Local Leader Goes 'Above And Beyond For Community'

NEWARK, NJ — Without community leaders, Newark wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions.

This submission comes from Aliya Cullins, a Newark reader who nominated Fatima Jones.

How do you know this community leader?

She's my Community Leader and Head Leaser.

What does this community leader do?

She runs and operates New Hope Village here in Newark NJ

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

She goes above and beyond for our community, from parenting workshops, to summer camps and programs for our elderly.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?

She's giving back to the community she grew up in as a young resident, and this is how.

She oversaw a million dollar renovation which made our housing complex more safe and stable.

She always tries to include everyone from young to older for a better quality of life. She's implicated so many new activities and workshops and even religious services every Sunday and she's just received her own ministry.

We have fathers' workshops, senior work outs and brunch, bingo and movie nights.

Every summer she puts together a huge parking lot party with rides and petting zoo, each year it's bigger and better. We have sewing classes, manicures, vendors coming in donating food and wellness checkups.

She cares about New Hope Village and it's future.

To me it's important to to keep housing in urban cities active and functioning properly so it makes the city it's in better and safe. She should definitely be recognized for all her achievements and accomplishments.
