Newark Man Charged in Shooting of Off-Duty Police Officer

South Plainfield officer was victim of robbery attempt outside Elizabeth strip club.

A city man has been charged with the Dec. 2 shooting of an off-duty police officer in Elizabeth, CBS 2 News reported.

On Dec. 2, a South Plainfield police officer were leaving an Elizabeth strip club when he was approached by a man who attempted to rob hium at gunpoint. The officer was shot multiple times but is expected to recover, officials were quoted saying.

On Friday authorities arrested Taquan Ward, 21, and charged him with first-degree robbery and weapons offenses. If convicted, he faces more than  40 year in prison.
