Jerold Wise convicted of stabbing man in neck in 2009
A 28-year-old Newark man was sentenced to life in prison Friday for the 2009 stabbing death of a man on a Newark street corner, officials at the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said today.
On Aug. 17, an Essex County jury found Jerold Wise guilty of the Sept. 8, 2009 stabbing of Newark resident Curtis Johnson, 22. Johnson was stabbed in the neck on the corner of Broad and Market streets, the prosecutor’s office said.
Wise must serve a minimum of 35 years before he is eligible for parole.

“This is a very sad case,’’ said Assistant Prosecutor Gina Iosim. “The defendant decided to settle an argument by taking another man’s life. To this day, he has never shown any remorse for his actions. We believe the sentence is justified.’’
