Newark Police Investigating Stabbing of 17-Year-Old
Barringer High student accosted Wednesday afternoon

The Newark Police Department's Major Crimes Unit is working in conjunction with the Newark Board of Education as they investigate the stabbing Wednesday of a 17-year-old Barringer High School student.
The youth was stabbed following an altercation around 3 pm near Park Avenue and First Street, Newark police said. The victim was transported to University Hospital and was listed in stable condition Thursday.
Police have not yet apprehended a suspect or determined a motive.

"I would first like to wish the victim in this case a speedy recovery. We are working closely with the Board of Education and have taken steps to ensure the safety of all the children and faculty at the school," said Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio. We want to ensure that there are no future or retailitory acts of violence as a result of this incident. Our investigators are seeking the identity and whereabouts of the suspect and I anticipate his arrest."
