Newark, UMDNJ Offering Free Stroke Screening

The City of Newark and the University Hospital will host a free stroke screening fair Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 10 am to 2 pm at the first floor rotunda of city hall, 920 Broad St. There will also be a presentation on stroke prevention at noon in municipal council chambers on the second floor.
 
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, and the impact is most severe among African-Americans and Latinos, a group that represents 74 percent of the population of Newark, according to the hospital. These groups have a high stroke risk, the least access to affordable preventive and emergency care, and the highest rates of disability after a stroke.
