NJ United Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Sparks Fly From Plane
The aircraft experienced a mechanical issue shortly after takeoff, a United Airlines spokesperson told Patch.

NEWARK, NJ - A United Airlines flight from Newark Liberty International Airport made an emergency landing early Thursday morning after it experienced a mechanical failure, officials said.
Sparks could be seen under the Boeing 777 plane bound for Sao Paulo, Brazil in a video posted to Twitter. The flight, identified as United Airlines flight 149, took off just before 11:30 p.m., per FlightAware.
A mechanical issue regarding a hydraulic pump was to blame, a United Airport spokesman told Patch, adding that the plane remained in the air to burn fuel over the Atlantic Ocean and then landed safely.
