Obama Coming To NJ To Support Sherrill, Counter-Rally Planned For Ciattarelli
Obama is supporting his fellow Democrat – but Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli has scored an endorsement from Donald Trump.
NEWARK, NJ — A former president is making a visit to New Jersey to support Mikie Sherrill’s campaign for governor this weekend – but not everyone is glad he’s coming.
Barack Obama will be attending a “get out the vote” rally in Newark on Saturday, Nov. 1 alongside Sherrill, a U.S. congresswoman who is running as a Democrat for governor. More details about the event are expected to be released soon.
“President Obama reminds us what we can accomplish when we leaders are unafraid to take on big challenges to deliver,” Sherrill said.

“I am so grateful to have President Obama’s support and endorsement in this race as we harness our momentum to mobilize New Jerseyans to vote,” Sherrill said.
Obama endorsed Sherrill for governor earlier in October. He also endorsed Gov. Phil Murphy during his re-election campaign in 2021.

Meanwhile, a counter-demonstration is being planned in support of Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Phillips Park in Newark, according to a social media post.
Ciattarelli received an endorsement from President Donald Trump in May, helping the former state assemblyman to rack up a landslide victory in the party’s primary election.
Trump fired off another round of support for Ciattarelli earlier this month, posting that the Republican is a “winner for New Jersey.” The president joined Ciattarelli for a tele-rally with fellow GOP boosters on Friday as the state kicked off early voting.
Third-party and independent candidates running in the 2025 election include Vic Kaplan (Libertarian Party) and Joanne Kuniansky (Socialist Workers Party). Candidates running write-in campaigns include Lily Benavides (Green Party).
