Carjacking Preventative Measures, Obamacare Forum This Week

The week ahead on Newark Patch.

A milder version of the cold snap that blew through the area returns to the eastern United States this week. Meteorologists predict that New Jersey will see below-average temperatures again by Tuesday and that the unusual cold will linger through Thursday, although temps won’t plummet as low as they did when the “polar vortex” brought thermometers down to the single digits.

Essex County College is hosting a roundtable on the Affordable Care Act -- commonly known as “Obamacare” -- and how it can benefit young people aged 18 to 34. The forum, sponsored by Barnabas Health, will include information sessions on how to sign up for the health care exchanges created by the act. The forum will be held at the Mary Burch Theater, 303 University Ave., from 10 am to 4:30 pm Wednesday. The event is free and open to the public.

Also this week, we’ll speak to an expert on a subject all too familiar to many Newarkers: car theft and carjacking. The representative of a form that provides electronic tracking of vehicles will discuss the statistics behind auto theft and strategies for protecting yourself.
