Parolee and his Brother Face Weapon, Drug Charges
Parole board home visit leads to two arrests

A parolee and his brother were arrested Tuesday by officers who came to his apartment to check up on him, Newark police said in a statement.
Newark police and officers from the state parole board reportedly smelled marijuana when they arrived at 183 S. 9th St. around 9 am to conduct a home visit with 20-year-old Ahmid Hatcher. Police saw drugs in the apartment after Hatcher admitted them and also spotted Hatcher’s brother, Shaquan, 24, attempt to hide in his bedroom. Shaquan Hatcher, who was allegedly caught trying to hide drugs and cash near his bed, was also armed with a .380 caliber handgun loaded with illegal hollow-point bullets, police said.
Police recovered the gun, $700 in cash, 14 bags of marijuana and 800 decks of heroin from the apartment. The brothers were charged with several weapons and narcotics violations. Ahmid Hatcher was also charged with violating the terms of his parole.
