Fugitive Wanted for Shooting Teen Apprehended, Police Say

16-year-old boy suffered non-life-threatening injury in shooting earlier this month.

Officers with the Newark Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit Wednesday arrested a Newark man wanted for the shooting of a 16-year-old boy earlier this month.

The teen was shot in the thigh near 18th Avenue and Irvine Turner Boulevard Jan. 8. The injury was “non-life-threatening,” Sgt. Ronald Glover of the Newark Police Department said.

Fugitive team officers spotted Laronn Moultrie, 28, sitting in a car in the 200 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

"I commend the Newark Police Department's Fugitive Apprehension Unit for their excellent investigative work which led to the arrest of this individual,” Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio said.
