A traffic stop last night resulted in the seizure of hundreds of grams of cocaine, Newark police said in a statement today.
Officers from the 2nd Precinct patrolling near 9th Avenue and S. 12th Street around 8:30 pm reportedly spotted a gray Acura whose license plates were not properly displayed. When police pulled the vehicle over and approached, an officer allegedly spotted a large plastic bag on the floor of the car containing what appeared to be narcotics.
Police later learned the bag contained 261 grams of cocaine, which has an estimated street value of $10,500.
Sean Sutton, 32, of Newark, who was driving the vehicle, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance , distribution, distribution within 1,000 feet of a school and several motor vehicle violations. More charges may be pending.
“I commend the officers involved in arresting another individual that possessed a large quantity of narcotics. The members of the Newark Police Department are committed in attacking all illegal activity that will disrupt the quality of life for the citizens of the city of Newark,” said Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio.
