Police Seize $9,000 in Cocaine

Several agencies team up for Penn Station bust last week

Several agencies, including the Newark Police Department, took part in a narcotics investigation that resulted in an arrest and the seizure of $9,000 in cocaine, the department said in a statement.

On April 26, personnel from the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Drug Enforcement Administration, NJ Transit Police as well as Newark officers investigating drug trafficking at Newark Penn Station conducted surveillance on Floyd Hercules, 49, who was seen leaving a train.

He was followed onto Market Street, where Hercules reportedly realized he was being observed and dumped a package containing the drugs into a garbage can, police said. The drugs were retrieved and Hercules was arrested.

He faces several narcotics charges, including possession within 500 feet of a park and possession with intent to distribute.

"I want to first thank our fellow law enforcement partners for their assistance,” Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio said. “We have routinely experienced success in our endeavors in which we pool our resources and this arrest was another testament to our ability to work together effectively."
