Ramos Picks up More Labor Endorsements Monday

North Ward councilman in four-way race for mayor this year

The list of endorsements for Anibal Ramos’s bid for mayor grew significantly longer Monday, when a number regional labor unions threw their support behind the North Ward councilman.

Ramos won the endorsements from Plumbers Local 24, Steamfitters Local 475, Sprinkler Fitters Local 696 and The New Jersey Association of Pipe Trades, his campaign said in a statement.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of these three unions who represent the hard-working men and women in the construction industry,” Ramos said. “As mayor, I will be an advocate for working families and I will make job training a top priority of my administration.”

Ramos is in a four-way race against South Ward Councilman Ras Baraka, Central Ward Councilman Darrin Sharif, and Shavar Jeffries, a law professor and former assistant state attorney general. The non-partisan election is being held in May.

Incumbent Mayor Luis Quintana, who was appointed after former Mayor Cory Booker joined the US Senate in October, is not running for a full, four-year term.
