Report: Baraka Picks Up Major Union Endorsement
Popular South Ward councilman is in four-way race for mayor next year

NJ.com reported Monday that a labor union with a large membership presence in Newark will endorse Ras Baraka for mayor.
The Communications Workers of America said Monday it would officially announce its endorsement Tuesday, but did not name the candidate. Two sources familiar with the endorsement identified the candidate as Baraka, NJ,com reported.
Baraka, the South Ward representative on the city council, is in what is so far a four-way race for the seat now held by interim Mayor Luis Quintana. Central Ward Councilman Darrin Sharif, North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos and Shavar Jeffries, a law professor and former president of the Newark Schools Advisory Board, have also launched campaigns for the May 2014 election.
